Waliku has been assisting Save the Children’s LENS program in Guatemala since 2021. LENS is a five-year McGovern-Dole USDA funded program intended to improve:
Endorsed by the Ministry of Education in Guatemala, LENS reaches 315 schools in seven municipalities of Quiche. LENS introduced Waliku’s in-house solution to 20 schools in 2021 with the aim of identifying and reducing chronic absenteeism and drop out of the most marginalized children. After two academic years, LENS has increased the use of Waliku’s tools to 56 schools in Cunen, Cotzal and Chajul municipalities, reaching 9028 children. It has ambitious plans to further scale up to 92 schools in 2024-25 with support from local authorities and stakeholders.
The objectives of the digital intervention are to:
- The quality of literacy instruction,
- Children's attentiveness by decreasing short-term hunger,
- Children's school attendance, and
- Use of good health and dietary practices.
